Again, these may change, but we have fielded many questions about practice days and thought we should share what we currently have. We also understand that these dates may conflict with club players and we respect the fact that the club practices take priority over the URC practices. You will have the chance to mark your 'availability' on Team Snap.
Learn More About Our Organization
The Urbana Recreation Council Lacrosse Organization was formed to allow those living in the Urbana High School feeder area a platform to begin developing relationships and building teams that will be successful throughout their years in our school system. Age groups are available for Kindergarden through 8th grade. The URC Lax Organization is a volunteer based organization and would not be possible without the devoted community members who selflessly give of their time to provide an environment of enjoyment and education for our young athletes.
Club or Rec??? How about BOTH
One of the questions we receive regularly revolves around club players. Many of our teams have boys or girls who play a full club schedule and a full rec schedule, we encourage it!! It can be done, and it has been done. If it is important, you will find a way...if its not, you will find an excuse. 14 of the 18 girls pictured here played club as well.
Players on the club level are preparing themselves for the future by competing on teams that draw attention from colleges.
Players on the rec level are preparing themselves for the future by competing on teams with the girls they will play with in High School.
No coach in our program will punish players for choosing to play both a club and rec schedule. We understand that club coaches often require practice participation and we understand that these practices take priority over the rec practices.
Our goal is to provide an opportunity for the athletes in our community to play together and develop strong relationships with the teammates they will have in High School. The premise of the URC Lacrosse program is to prepare athletes in the Urbana feeder pattern to play at a high level together.
If you are concerned your club schedule will interfere with the rec schedule, please communicate with the coach for that age group and come up with a plan of how conflicts will be handled.

Objectives & Expected Level Of Play By Division
This age group is for our beginners from Kindergarden and younger. Teams will be very small but may practice as a larger group to ensure continuity of skills. Teams play a 4 game regular season and an end of year play day.
- Basic Stick Skills
- Catching & Throwing
- Defensive Positioning
- Sharing the ball
This age group is for players in 1st and second grade. Experiences vary in this age group but we do the best we can to differentiate practice skills and time. Teams play a full league schedule of 8 games and an end of the year tournament. Teams will be formed with a mix of experienced and new players.
- Catching & Throwing
- Introduce non-dominant hand skills
- Introduce Defensive help positioning
- Sharing the ball on the move
This level is for our 3rd and 4th grade players. At this level there will be a variety of skill levels from no experience to multiple years of experience. At this age level we will begin to separate teams based on experience and skill. The league has an option for developmental teams at this age group if there are a number of younger players. Teams will play a full league schedule with an end of season tournament or play day.
- Catching & Throwing with Non-Dominant hand
- Defensive help & Positioning
- Intermediate Game rules
- 7 v 7 game
This age group will be for our players in 5th and 6th grade. This will be the first group to play on a full size field with 11 v 11. Teams will be split based on experience and skill level if there is a need for multiple teams. Teams may play a 10 game regular season schedule with an end of season tournament.
- Offensive Plays and Set pieces
- Non-Dominant shooting and play
- Secondary defensive help
- Position specific roles
- Defensive sets and variety of schemes
This age group will be for our 7th & 8th Grade players. The flow of this level will be as close to High School level as we can make it. Teams will work closely with High School coaches and players and will compete in a full 10 game schedule and end of season tournament.
- Proficiency in Catching and Throwing with both hands
- Offensive philosophy & plays
- Defensive Philosophy & plays
- Teamwork and Chemistry will be a huge factor
- Competing at a high level
These groups will vary year to year based on interest. There are numerous summer tournaments available and if there is enough interest at a level, we will try to field teams to play in summer tournaments in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
- High level competition
